AS-Lingo FAQs

What are our customers asking us

Q: Can I host AS-Lingo in my data center on my own premises?

A:

YES of course you can. We have customers that have taken that choice. However,

  • The Product is the Service and
  • The Service is the Product
  • There is no license charge for AS-Lingo

To deliver this service, we would require to have access to a test/development system at your data center. We would update AS-Lingo as it’s development continues, just as we would do this on your personal “Cloud” at the AS-Lingo-Data-Center which is included in the monthly service charge.

Important: We would not want access to your production system at any time under any circumstances.

Q: What is the organizational structure in accounting?

A:

Client (XXX – e.g. enterprise or company). Clients can be grouped.
Division (XXX – e.g. company or affiliate). Divisions belong to a client.

These organisational elements can be extended using Dimensions

Q: What are the General Ledger capabilities?

A:

A client is assigned an account frame – any chart of accounts is allowed:

  •  enterprise chart of accounts
A division uses a subset or all of the accounts predefined in the account frame:
  • operational chart of accounts for each company
Each operational ledger is assigned to a country default ledger type
  • (e.g. HGB for Germany, IFRS or US GAAP for USA)

Transactions can be posted to any number of additional ledgers according to the legislation of the country concerned or the purpose of the ledger (e.g. consolidation ledger).

Q: Is Multi-Currency supported?

A:

Transactions can be posted to any account in any currency.
Two „local“ currencies are available:

  • Local Currency I = Company currency.
  • Local Currency II = Enterprise currency.

Foreign currency (any currency is supported) postings are always translated to local currency.
Exchange rates are maintained in the system by type and date.
Exchange rate profit or loss postings due to rate changes before payments are posted automatically in revenue or expense transactions.

A:

Default: Client Group, Client, Division

Using the Consolidation Ledger:
This is an example as implemented in AS-Lingo:

  • OrgUnit / ConsolidationID Country
  • Ledger group / ledger / ledger type Ext. GLAccount

The composition of these segments can be chosen freely by the AS-Lingo User.

Q: GL Drill Down to Source Documents?

A:

Turnover of General Ledger or personal accounts can be viewed (optionally using filters) in account display.

At a mouse click: Yearly turnover can be drilled down to monthly turnover

  • can be drilled down to documents
  • can be drilled down to posting items
  • can be drilled down to item texts and even the PDF of the source document

Q: Financial Statement Drill Down to Source Documents?

A: AS-Lingo creates reports using internal pivot table functions. Financial statements can therefore be broken down to their parts at all levels. This also applies to any other reports created by AS-Lingo.

Segments that can be targeted in a report could for example be:

  • Company Unit
  • Business Area
  • Area of operation
  • Profit Centre
  • Cost Centre
  • Project
  • Product

Any of these segments can thus be target of drill down operations in the chosen hierarchy, right down to the transaction item of the source document from which they were created.
